Tip 4: Stop being your own center of attention

When you’re an addict, it’s all about you. Where are you going to go to get your next fix? Who can get you your next drink, your next cigarette? How can you make each day revolve around you and your addictions – and nothing else?

How can you stop being your own center of attention? Join a group. Make your instructor the focus of your attention. Take an exercise class. Learn a new hobby. Learn a new language.

Become a volunteer and do something for somebody else, instead of making every day just about you. There are so many wonderful and important things that you can do if you focus on somebody or something else – instead of your addiction.

So get up and get out there. You’ll have a happier, healthier, more rewarding life.
